Founded in 1971, the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) embraces its mission to secure the highest quality care for all critically ill and injured patients.

SCCM envisions a world where all critically ill and injured persons receive care from a present, integrated team of dedicated and fully-trained intensivists and critical care specialists. Multiprofessional teams use knowledge, technology, and compassion to provide timely, effective, safe, efficient, and equitable patient-centered care.

HOW WE IMPROVE QUALITY

SCCM seeks to improve the quality of care through the development and distribution of clinical practice guidelines, as well as by working with groups of ICU providers on specific collaborative projects to improve patient outcomes.

SCCM dedicates resources toward helping the multiprofessional critical care team work successfully with patients and families before, during and after an ICU stay.

THRIVE INITIATIVE AND POST INTENSIVE CARE SYNDROME

 SCCM reaches out to patients and families through its THRIVE initiative, which aims to educate patients, their families, and the healthcare community about Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) and provide resources.
